Bafög für alle!

Schon jetzt erhalten nur etwa 15% der Studierenden BAföG,
jedoch sind rund ein Drittel armutsgefährdet. Die
Lebensmittelpreise und Mieten, speziell in den Großstädten,
steigen rasant. Die Lage ist prekär! Für viele ist ein Studium
bald nicht mehr finanzierbar.

Nun droht es noch schlimmer zu werden: im neuen
Haushaltsplan der Bundesregierung soll es erneut zu
Kürzungen im Sozialhaushalt, so auch beim Bafög, kommen.
Der Grund: Das Budget wird nicht ausgeschöpft. Dies wird mit
fehlendem Bedarf erklärt. Das ist aber offensichtlich falsch!
Es ist also klar: wir müssen dringend etwas tun! Aber was
eigentlich?

In dieser Veranstaltung wollen wir uns genau anschauen, wo
die Probleme liegen und diskutieren was nötig ist um etwas zu
ändern. Damit alle Teilnehmenden unabhängig von Vorwissen
auf einer Ebene diskutieren können, wird es vorab einige
thematische Inputs geben. Hier soll erläutert werden:

-Die historische Entwicklung des BAföGs und der Status Quo
-Vor welchen Schwierigkeiten steht das Studierendenwerk?
-Welche politischen Forderungen und Auseinandersetzungen
gibt es?

Wir hoffen, dass aus der anschließenden Debatte alle etwas
mitnehmen, was wir gemeinsam tun können, um die Situation
zu verbessern.

Als Bündnis Studium-am-Limit werden wir das Thema
weiterverfolgen und hoffen auf eure Unterstützung.

There are some things in motion and parallel to our plenary meeting, whose resolution you can find here:

• There is an open letter from the MathNat departments to the senate on the topic of "More life at the university", which advances what we discussed at the VV on the question of the university as a living and cultural space and included in the resolution. You can find the letter here. The senate has not answered yet; time to go there.
• A growing TV-Stud alliance is fighting for all university employees to have a collective agreement and full staff representation. This would mean a considerable improvement in the social situation of all students who work at the university in addition to their studies. On Wednesday, July 12, this demand will be taken to the university senate; there will be a strike in the fall. There will also be a rally on Albertus-Magnus-Platz before the Senate meeting on July 12. At the same time, there are disputes about the WissZeitVG, which is the legal basis for chain fixed-term contracts in science.
• On Saturday, 9/23, there is a nationwide education protest day; a main location is Cologne.

At the meeting we want to think about how we can participate in these initiatives and protests and also bring our demands more into the public debate, e.g. with a Cologne-wide student demonstration at the beginning of the winter semester and an event where we can discuss and advance central demands of the protests (such as BaFöG for all and as a full subsidy, sufficient public funding of the Studi-Werke, 9 Euro ticket for students) with representatives of the student umbrella organization fzs, the education union GEW and someone from the Studierendenwerk.

The time is ripe - even the conservative Ministry of Science has recognized that the neoliberal-restrictive orientation of the universities is dysfunctional, and has worked together with the university rectors on surprising changes to the university law.
